چکیده

There are a number of evolutionary forces in finns that lead to the need to evolve accounting database systems. For example, systems are being reengineered resulting in substantial reductions in the number of agents and redefinitions of events. As rums downsize changing product lines, resources change, requiring further evolution of accounting databases. As a result, it is necessary to evolve accounting databases that are structured based on resources, events and agents (REA), as is the case with all such enterprise models. This paper discusses these motivations for evolving accounting database systems.

Accounting Information Systems , 4 th . Ed . REA Approach

This chapter presents a discussion of the REA approach to business process modeling. This is followed by a discussion of the shortcomings of traditional database applications. The third section looks more deeply into the development of an REA model. A thorough example of how the REA process is carried out is presented. The objectives of this chapter are: ! to recognize the limitations of tradit...

A Petri Net Specification of the REA Business Ontology

Current auditing procedures struggle with the incorporation of new data-driven techniques such as Process Mining. Although Process Mining has been applied experimentally on micro-level workflow processes, it is not so easy to apply on the level of the value cycle that is at the core of accounting databases. A more general problem is that the new smart approaches lack a well-developed accounting...

Financial Information Systems: Teaching REA semantics within an Information Engineering framework

The purpose of this paper is to describe how the accounting REA model can be incorporated into the Information Engineering set of methodologies in the Accounting or Financial Information Systems classroom. We contrast the traditional Information Engineering approach with one that includes REA modeling. We argue that the REA model is an interaction model, and that its use enables accounting stud...

REA Business Management Ontology: Conceptual Modeling of Accounting, Finance and Management Control

Geerts and McCarthy [5, 6] established the REA business ontology. In its accounting and policy infrastructure the informational and procedural elements which are needed for accounting and management purposes are specified. An investigation of the requirements in the disciplines of accounting, finance and management control shows that the ontology is not complete. By including the concepts of ac...

Resources-Events-Agents Design Theory: A Revolutionary Approach to Enterprise System Design

Enterprise systems typically include constructs such as ledgers and journals with debit and credit entries as central pillars of the systems’ architecture due in part to accountants and auditors who demand those constructs. At best, structuring systems with such constructs as base objects results in the storing the same data at multiple levels of aggregation, which creates inefficiencies in the...
